Biggar Strength Gin
Some gins are made to blend in. This isn't one of them.
Rated 98/100 at the International Wine & Spirit Competition — joint highest score ever awarded to a gin from over 1,100 blind-judged entries — our Navy Strength was built to be the best gin we could make. Not the most approachable. The best.
The same botanical bill as our Classic Dry, with hawthorn berries added to deepen the body and add a distinctive fruit character. At 57% ABV, everything is turned up: the juniper hits harder, the botanicals carry further, and the finish stays with you.
That's not an accident. Navy strength isn't just higher alcohol — it's a different gin entirely. The extra ABV extracts more from every botanical in the still, producing a spirit with a complexity and intensity that lower-strength gins simply can't match. It also means it holds its own in any cocktail, cutting through ice and mixer without losing its character.
Distilled in small batches of no more than 140 bottles at The Stillhouse in Biggar, Scotland. Every batch is monitored, tested, and cut by hand.
This is what we set out to make when we built the distillery. Drink it, and you'll taste exactly why.
Tasting notes
Nose: Lifted juniper and citrus, sharpened by the 57% ABV, with a hedgerow quality from the locally foraged botanicals — rosehip, rowan berry, and nettles grown at the distillery.
Palate: Bold and full. Pronounced juniper and warm spice up front, followed by the distinctive fruity tartness of hawthorn berry — a botanical found in our own woodland and added specifically to this expression.
Finish: Long, warming, and clean. The citrus and botanical character lingers.
Botanicals
Juniper, coriander seeds, cardamom, cassia bark, orange, lemon, rosehip, rowan berries, nettles, pink peppercorn, hawthorn berry.
All core botanicals are grown or foraged at The Stillhouse, Wyndales Mill, Biggar, South Lanarkshire.
The hawthorn berry
Every botanical in Biggar Strength earns its place, but the hawthorn berry is the one that belongs specifically to this gin. Foraged from woodland on our own site, it adds a fruit character — apple-like in dried form, quietly tart once distilled — that deepens the body at higher strength in a way that softer botanicals can't. The botanical name for hawthorn, Crataegus, comes from the Greek word for strength. We didn't plan that. We'll take it.
How to serve it
G&T: 25ml Biggar Strength, 75ml premium tonic, plenty of ice, twist of lemon peel. The higher ABV means a shorter pour still delivers full flavour — don't over-spirit it.
Negroni: Equal parts Biggar Strength, Campari, and sweet vermouth. Stir over ice, strain, orange peel. This is what it was made for. If you'd rather not mix your own, our ready-to-serve Biggar Negroni uses this gin.
Martini: 60ml Biggar Strength, 10ml dry vermouth, stirred cold. Lemon twist. The strength holds the dilution without losing its edge.
